valerie (the zutons cover)—amy winehouse

sigh. what a wonderful voice now lacking from the world. this video makes me so sad. you can see her personality shining—her swag, the bob of her head, the way her hand touches her heart when she hits a note she feels. but alas, now i only have something to revisit in my itunes. such a fucking shame, such.

amy winehouse released her first album frank in 2003. her follow up album back to black was released in 2006 and made winehouse the first british female to win five grammys. she influenced the rise and popularity of female musicians and soul music.  she revitalized british music. amy winehouse was a star confused about her luster. she died on july 23, 2011 at the age of 27.

the link below is a version of valerie produced by mark ronson, who was the producer for back to black and worked with winehouse often. it’s pretty amazing.
