i can barely pat my head and rub my stomach simultaneously, while norwegian homie bernhoft does it all himself (live) bass, guitar, harmony, back-up! - a living, breathing example of the expression, “if you want something done right, do it yourself.” bernhoft went through quite a few musical partners before settling comfortably within the abode of his solo talent.
it took me a minute to jive with c’mon talk, but once i heard those funky vocals, dusted with a slight accent, i was sold. his album solidarity breaks reminds me ever so slightly of justin timberlake - soulful, catchy, sexy and a little pop.

the noose of jah city - king krule
what a strange, but wonderful voice exiting such an unassuming kid. king krule, formerly zoo kid, is a good example of where music is being put down after being in the hands of the young. heavily influenced by chillwave, good writing, and teenage angst, king krule has stumbled upon a lovely medium to express and create, all the while looking for the other side of puberty.
i’ve been just a little obsessed with this song. the title is dope, too.

the UK is outshining the US on vocal talent, i think. jessie ware, just like her more established counterparts (adele, amy winehouse etc.) has that soulful, wide-ranged, powerful voice that imitates r&b but with a dance music flair. this tune, strangest feeling, is her debut single. the heavy electronic elements she seems to vibe with have made for dope collaborations with sbtkrt and the vision. check for it all.

‘chillwave’ is a pretty straight forward term- who is it that decides genre labels? i want to be that person when i grow up. this song from the adult swim 8 singles in 8 weeks project was my favorite: dreamy, gloomy, beautiful, lonely. i just like my music to make me feel, that’s all.

ugh, i’ve been treating this song like a slave! i play it non-stop, beat it into submission! force the lyrics to mean more than what they should. i’m actually very happy with the boy i’ve got around, but i keep telling him to “go away”, damn song! it’s just so beautiful.
what first attracted me to recent college graduate, stage name: toro y moi was the song elise from his second studio album underneath the pine, which was released earlier this year. you hid is from his debut album causers of this, which has quite a selection of dope songage. check for it. check for it all.

sigh. what a wonderful voice now lacking from the world. this video makes me so sad. you can see her personality shining—her swag, the bob of her head, the way her hand touches her heart when she hits a note she feels. but alas, now i only have something to revisit in my itunes. such a fucking shame, such.
amy winehouse released her first album frank in 2003. her follow up album back to black was released in 2006 and made winehouse the first british female to win five grammys. she influenced the rise and popularity of female musicians and soul music. she revitalized british music. amy winehouse was a star confused about her luster. she died on july 23, 2011 at the age of 27.
